Description of the book
Even though this novel is a children’s book, it is very appreciated by many adults as well. It talks about a silverback gorilla named Ivan, who lives in a small domain or cage inside a mall, and who gets people’s attention because he can draw and paint.
Through the story, Ivan gives his points of view about humans and their behavior, his domain, his friends, his keepers, his past, drawing, and everything that meet his eyes or he touches with his hands. And he also shows great care and compassion for his friends, especially Ruby, the baby elephant.
With this story, the author wants to give a message about animal rights and against their mistreatment. Inspiring from a real story about a real gorilla named Ivan. Who also could draw, and has lived in a cage as well for many years before he was adopted by a zoo and got his freedom at last.
